This week Proteus staff attended the Association of Farmworker Opportunities Programs (AFOP) National Conference in San Diego. The four-day event unites various organizations throughout the United States, that provide education and training to Farmworkers in hopes of improving the quality of life of Farmworkers. This year, Proteus customer Odalis Ramirez was named Farmworker of the Year after deciding she no longer wanted to work in the fields. She is now a Truck Driver and is living a life with less financial pressure. Dinuba Service Center's Itzel Ramirez and Kevin Franco were also recognized at the event, for completing the AFOP Training Institute and our CEO, Michelle Engle-Silva was also a speaker
According to their website:
“AFOP gives these awards each year to acknowledge farmworkers who have excelled in training, individuals who have gone the extra mile for their farmworker clients, and employers who are committed to changing their communities – and, indeed, the nation – one good job at a time,” said AFOP Executive Director Daniel Sheehan. “We share a commitment to serving farmworkers that moves us to do all we can to make the lives of those laboring in our fields a little bit more stable, a little bit healthier, a little bit better. Congratulations to all our winners.”
