In memory of Proteus’s long serving CEO, this $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a community -minded individual seeking a career in the social service field. One William M. Maguy Scholarship is awarded annually. Acceptance of Scholarship Applications is typically announced in August of each year.
Deadline: August 13th, 2023
- Typed personal Statement
- Typed Essay
- Two letters of recommendation
- Copy of most recent transcripts
- Completed application and attachments must be postmarked by deadline.
- If awarded and prior to scholarship disbursement an enrollment and payment verification will be requested to demonstrate full-time college enrollment.
Selection Criteria- selection is based on the following:

- Letters of Reference- the applicant must provide two or more letters of reference.
- Community or Leadership Involvement- applicant must provide a listing of community and leadership involvement.
- A concise essay (topic to be announced at the time of application).

- Must be enrolled in a Social Service field degree program including but not limited to:
- Political science
- Religious Studies
- Liberal Arts
- Communications
- Urban studies
- Sociology
- Public Administration
- Must have a GPA of 3.0 or Higher
- Must show proof of community involvement
- Must complete the application in full
- Must complete a concise essay on topic
- Must reside in either, Kern, Kings, Fresno or Tulare Counties
- If attending a College out of the area a parent must reside in one of the four counties mentioned above.
- Your enrollment status must be full time in a degree program for 2023-2024 school year. With a College, University or an accredited Post-Secondary institute.
- Must live in either: Kern, Kings, Fresno, or Tulare Counties
- Student not eligible to apply for scholarship are: Proteus employees, their immediate relatives.
- Immediate relatives are spouse, children, step-children, parents, step parents, brother, sister.
