On July 31, 2025, Proteus, Inc. hosted its first annual Advocacy Day, welcoming local partners, elected officials, and community representatives to learn more about the critical work we do across our service areas. The event served as a platform to highlight Proteus programs, build connections, and advocate for continued and expanded funding opportunities to support the communities we serve.
A key highlight of the day was the participation of CEO Michelle Engel-Silva, who personally guided guests through a tour of our facilities, answered questions, and shared impactful stories of Proteus’ reach and results. Her leadership and insight set the tone for a day of meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
The tour began at our Administration Office, where guests boarded a bus to visit key program sites. The first stop was our Energy Division, where guests explored the warehouse and gained a clearer understanding of the scope of services the division provides. Next, they visited the William M. Maguy School of Education, where they heard moving testimonies from two truck driving students and observed hands-on training in both our Truck Driving and Sustainable Energy Efficiency Development (SEED) classes.
The tour concluded back at the Administration Office, where lunch was served and guests had the opportunity to mingle, share insights, and explore ideas for future collaboration.
We extend our sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to these important conversations. Together, we’re building stronger futures.
Yuliana’s first opportunity came through a receptionist position at a hotel in Lindsay, offered as a 100-hour work experience. While it didn’t turn out to be the right fit, Yuliana never lost her drive. With Viviana’s continued encouragement, she stayed motivated and focused on what lay ahead.
That positivity paid off when a new opportunity opened up at Dr. Hasnain’s office for a temporary medical front office assistant. Yuliana applied, interviewed, and was hired at $16.50/hour. Her warm personality and eagerness to learn made an immediate impression. By the time the temporary assignment ended, Dr. Hasnain had seen enough—Yuliana was offered a permanent role on the team.
Today, Yuliana is thriving. She now earns $21.00/hour and says she finally feels at home, both professionally and personally. At our recent Advocacy Day event, Yuliana shared her inspiring journey as one of our featured speakers, reminding us all of the power of perseverance and the impact of having someone believe in you. We’re proud to have been part of her path to success!
