Mike McCann Scholarship 2022
For many economically disadvantaged people, the dream of higher education cannot become a reality without financial assistance. Realizing this challenge, Proteus awards several scholarships to deserving students through a competitive application process.
Proteus, Inc. has given out hundreds of academic scholarships to students since the scholarship program began in 1992. Funding these scholarships is made possible through a variety of committee fundraising efforts, as well as through the generosity of Proteus employees who contribute their dollars each pay period.
Qualifying applicants must be low-income farmworkers, low-income Proteus customers (within the last four years), or a family member of either category. The amount and number of standard scholarships issued depends on available funds each year. The award amount is $500 dollars. Acceptance of Scholarship Applications is typically announced in May of each year.

Applicant Criteria:
- Applicant family must be low income: Please refer to attached Poverty Guidelines (attached)
- Applicant and/or their parents must have received a service from Proteus within the last 4 years.
- Must live in either: Kern, Kings, Fresno, or Tulare Counties
- Your enrollment status must be full time or part time for 2022-2023 school year.
- Plan to attend a two or four-year College, or an accredited Post –secondary institute.
- Student not eligible to apply for scholarship are: Proteus employees or their immediate relatives.
- Scholarship Application Form must be signed by applicant/ parent or legal guardian if under the age of 18.
- Typed personal Statement
- Two letters of recommendation
- Completed application and attachments must be postmarked by March 31, 2022.
- If awarded and prior to scholarship disbursement an enrollment and payment verification will be requested to demonstrate full-time or part time college enrollment.

Farmworker/Proteus Customer- the applicant or family member must self-certify that they are or have been a farmworker OR enrolled in any Proteus program during the past two years. Applicant must also complete the income section in full to certify low-income status.
Employment-must not have been employed by Proteus during past two years.
Residency-must reside in geographic area served by Proteus programs or if attending an out of area state college must provide proof of family residency in one of the four counties (Kings, Kern, Tulare and Fresno)
Educational status-must be or will enroll as a full-time or part-time student in a degree program at a college or university, and provide proof prior to awarding funds.
